Lifestyle of the Sick and Famous

After reviewing last week’s post, I’m realizing that I’ve lost some of my passion to get out there and take in shows. A major reason for this surely is my health. Two weeks Tuesday I started to feel a strange tickle in the back of my throat. This turned into a full-blown cold by Friday. Since then, I’ve been trying to recover. I can safely say that I am feeling better now (almost a week later).

However, my cold definitely slowed things down. To be truthful, I was probably the instigator of my own demise by stubbornly going out on Friday night. I was already starting to lose my voice Friday afternoon but I desperately wanted to make an appearance at a themed-party set up by other Bundang teachers. This crew was all associated with one man – Devin – who I mentioned in another post. Devin is now back in Canada – but his legacy - and his party people live on.

Regardless, I took Phil and Mark along with me to revel in the golf-themed apparel and catch up with beloved acquaintances. Being a Friday night, everything was packed, but that didn’t stop us from having a good night. Us three didn’t stay too late (relative) and snuck out before it all ended. I came home feeling alright…or as alright as I could in the circumstances.

The next morning, though, I felt as though my world was ending. It was as if everything came at me at once. I did the right thing at this point. I took some medicine and went back to bed. I slept most of that Saturday. It seemed to be the right decision as I did feel better for Sunday. Following Saturday, I’ve tried to take it easy…and I think it’s worked…I’m now feeling more energetic.

As I mentioned, this sickness has slowed me down, but it hasn’t stopped me. Yesterday, I went out with my Korean teachers (and Mark and Phil) to participate in a surprise party for one of the teachers at my school. I was glad to be a part of the whole thing. I believe Song (the teacher) did really appreciate the effort as last Saturday’s planned party for her kinda fell through. We all had a good time drinking wine and eating birthday cake. I feel pretty lucky to be part of a cool close-knit group of Korean teachers. And, yeah, Phil and Mark are pretty cool too…

So, now that I’m done with the sick part…I’ve just got to work on the famous bit, right?

Cheers!
