This has been a long time coming but my Canada trip will be wrapped up in this third and final post. Truthfully, I’m feeling a bit distant from it now. And, maybe that’s fair. It has been over two weeks since I touched down in Canada. This does not negate the good times had back home though..
I will continue with Thursday. It started off rather slow with a few errands but then got more interesting. I was able to take in Hell Boy 2 with my Dad. I absolutely loved the original Hell Boy so I was excited about this sequel. In fact, I had done some research prior to its release and was incredibly disappointed to find it wasn’t being released in Korea. Yet, it was playing when I got back home! The timing of my trip back home couldn’t have been better. The movie itself was good but didn’t have quite the same raw energy of the first.
Thursday evening meant meeting up with some old acquaintances. Two Andrews, a William and I converged on a Starbucks in Walnut Grove for a chat. It was certainly good to catch up. The night continued on with Andrew and I fragmenting off into Shark Club and Toss and Ming joining us later for food and drinks. This is when it felt good to be Canadian – with Canadian beer, food and people surrounding me.
Friday saw me seeing more friends for a grandiose climax. I met up with John and Ryan in Metrotown to do some quick shopping. Being close, we then visited Ryan’s pad in Burnaby. It was cool to finally see Ryan’s domain – and especially his new enormous TV. I was a tad jealous. We left here to meet a larger assortment of people at Cactus Club in Coquitlam. Coordinating everything was a bit tricky but I think it all worked out pretty well in the end. Thanks to everyone that came – you always make it special. Some of us carried on to a pub in the area to take in the local scene. By this point, everyone was getting a bit weary, and we slowly made our separate ways home. It was a great night.
Saturday morning was a bit special as well. My father’s side of the family came over for my Dad’s famous breakfast. It was a comfortable and relaxing experience – something I needed before boarding a plane back to Korea and having to wake up bright and early for morning classes.
Reflecting back now, I realize that I’ve got a lot of great people back home – friends, family and everything else in between. I felt very loved and lucky to have such an extensive network – especially since I’ve been away for over two years now. I would say this trip really pushed me to think that Canada is where I should be – where I should return. When I initially left, I was glad to free its borders and live independently but I’m ready now to slip back into the Canadian way of life.
I will soon post more words and pictures taken around Korea this time. I almost feel guilty writing about Canada when the title of my blog includes “Korean Adventures.”
Until then!
