The Heaviness Report

It's about time.

Howdy,

This is a post I've been meaning to do for quite some time. As most of you know, I'm mad about music...living here hasn't really changed anything really. However, instead of local media, friends for new music tips...I really on whatever I can glean from websites, or on something you might call "musical intuition." Anyway, where is all this leading you might ask? Well, I wanted to discuss some of the music I'm into at the moment, or the music I've been rolling with these past few months...so here goes..

As I've gotten older, one might assume my taste in harder music would diminish. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, it most certainly has not. This resurrection started back in Canada with two albums: The Bled's Found in the Flood and Every Time I Die's Gutter Phenomenon, respectively.

These two albums are exceptional in my opinion. I think the key here is that they hit you hard with the insanity, but there's always enough breakdowns to make the craziness just so much heavier.
I know ETID can be a little tiresome at times...but trust me...repeated listens will be worth your while!

The combination of absolute heaviness and brief moments of serenity is best shown through an incredible band called Posion the Well. How they transfer from anarchy to the sweetest melody I will never know, but I do know this, I love it. This album You Come Before You, was one of the first I downloaded after arriving in Korea. Blew my mind for several weeks. This was the album I continuously listened to while travelling to Mokdong.

Much more recently, I got hooked another hard band, Glassjaw. This was a band I dabbled with a little in Canada. Back then, I wasn't convinced of any real awesomeness of this band though. However, since downloading this album (Worship and Tribute) in its entirety, I was thoroughly impressed. Again, the contrast of hardcore and melody is impeccable. Soon enough, it was irresistible. This was another band that was played non-stop on my trips to Suji.

Quick on the heels of Glassjaw, came the second album from Finch. The second disc, Say Hello to Sunshine, sounds nothing like their first one. A harder sound is much more prevalent. In fact, it's everywhere...and that's why I love it. You know, at first, I was disappointed with this album because I was missing the super catchiness of the first disc. Yet, again, over time, I've come the realize the greatness of the album as well. Rocks hard and rocks long...

So there you have it. A brief synopsis of my attractions to heavy music. Now, it must be obvious that this is going to continue...my craziness for music will not be stopped! There will be 'reports'! Can you handle it? I think you can. Music is what makes the world go round, right? 'Nuff said.

Take it easy out there.

-Paul
