More Photo Action.

Well hello there. This is a continuation of photos taken awhile ago. Actually, these photos were taken during Chuseok, which is kinda like Korean thanksgiving. I virtually had the whole week off, as I only had to work the Monday. Anyway, HJ and I did some fun things, including going to Changdeokgung, like I mentioned last post. One of these fun things was visiting Namsun Tower.

This is a popular tourist attraction, along the same lines as the CN Tower. It's not quite as tall but the main advantage it has is that it's basically on the top of Seoul. It follows then, that the view is quite awesome. HJ and I had fun for sure. It's not incredibly mind blowing but it's a perfect way to spend an evening. Apparently, most of Seoul had the same idea as though...it certainly was busy. The tower was recently rennovated, giving it a very modern feel. Enjoy!

That neon shaped object in the background is an "N" - for Namsun Tower.

I liked it so much I had to take a photo with it!

Beautiful, eh? To me, it's oddly reminiscent of a mushroom...

Vancouver's pretty far away..

Jeju Island is a lot closer - another place I would very much like to visit.

The Namsun Tower in all its remodeled glory.

During Chuseok, I also had the opportunity to visit the War Musuem in Yongsan. In a lot of ways, it was a powerful experience. The musuem focused mainly on the Korean War, in great detail. It was emotional to see real artifacts of real people who lived and died during the war. That said, watching old movie clips of the devastation was even more profound. All of that fighting and tragedy seems so far removed from the everyday life of Korea today.

Yet, I know beyond a doubt that the Korean War shaped much of modern Korea. I left feeling humbled. Actually, there was a lot of Canadians who fought here as well. (I think around 30, 000 - but don't quote me) I visited this musuem with another native teacher, Marc, who works with me in the office. He's a super nice guy, from Edmonton Alberta. It was in fact his idea to go to the musuem. Here's some photos..

Aaah! My paleness is shining through!

Marc always dreamed of being in the military (joking).

The musuem's grounds were quite amazing. Covered with all kinds of military paraphernalia, but naturally beautiful too. Cool place.

Bye for now!
