Han River Swan Boats
Hey Guys! This is a post I should have done awhile ago…but it got backlogged with all the pictures from the Boseong trip. Anyway, on the holiday Monday awhile back HJ and I ventured out onto the Han River in Seoul to paddle around on some swan boats. It was great fun. I’m glad we did it – because it was kind of an impulse thing.
Originally, we had no intention of floating around but due to some unforeseen events, we were traveling along the subway which rockets directly over the boats. I should explain a little bit. Our dear friend Lydia was in the hospital having a cyst removed. The same Lydia we had been on the trip with a few days before. We felt compelled to go visit her and wish her well. This is why we were on a different subway line. (Lydia’s fine now by the way).

On the return trip, we saw the boats and (upon HJ’s insisting) jumped off the train and wandered around down below. It had threatened to rain all day but it thankfully held off that afternoon – although it was a bit overcast. The actual ride was simple and cool! It cost 10, 000 won for us together – but you could have as many as four people in a boat. Paddling was easy and not very tiring either. It was a tad boring at the end though. You’re given an hour but I think you’d be hard pressed to have tons of fun for all that time.

The highlight of the excursion was something unexpected. Both HJ and I saw something floating in the water. Neither of us knew what it was until it was close – very close. It was a dead fish! Absolutely disgusting! Suddenly the Han River didn’t seem like such a nice place. We tried to get a picture but it proved difficult. After much screaming and frantic paddling – we escaped and headed back for dry land.

It was at about this point that my camera died. I wish I could have shown you some pictures of the mini skatepark that was setup by the subway station. Looked like lots of fun. It’s just kinda cool to see Koreans doing ‘extreme’ sports. Almost unnatural. Anyhow, you’re just gonna have to imagine it.
That’s all I got for now. There are more photos and stories…but they’ll come later!
Bye bye!
