Caribbean Bay

Hi again. How is everybody? Good. Let me tell you how I'm doing...

Last weekend was just so great. HJ and I travelled up to Yong-in to experience the magical word of Caribbean Bay! (One of HJ's friends works for Everland - which means one thing - free tickets! Thanks Soonji!) Caribbean Bay is one half of a huge amusement park just outside of Seoul called Everland. Everything's done to a very classic style - think Korean Disneyland.

Caribbean Bay is in fact a waterpark - but - this is no ordinary waterpark. Quite easily the largest waterpark I have ever been to, and maybe even one of the biggest in the world! I was expecting some slides, maybe a few pools, but this was much, much more. It's a little hard to describe, but everything was designed to make the illusion that we were in some ancient tropical South American city. Incredible anyway.

The park was actually divided into two parts as well: outside and inside. Outside was my favourite as I got to experience the massive wave pool. These are no regular waves - these are full-on body crushers! Definitely my favourite attraction there... It was a little weird though - due to the sheer numbers of people. It almost felt as though there was more people in that pool than water...kk..

Okay, changing gears here. I've started teaching at Suji this week and I'm enjoying it in a big way. It's a smaller campus so it has a much cozier feel. I'm liking my classes too - so far no absolutely crazy students. I will be teaching in Suji for just Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Anyway, I'm happy about all of this...

It seems the hot weather is abruptly coming to an end. It's starting to feel a lot colder in the evenings already, and it is not nearly as humid anymore. This is all very positive, as I was getting a little tired of sweating everywhere I went, inlcuding my apartment.

Well, I have some more photos to post as well here. A brief intro maybe? Since attending Onnuri church here, I've had the chance to meet a bunch of Trinity grads. Anyway, Brandon and Rachel were two friends of both HJ and I. Hyejung actually was friends with Rachel back in Canada. They left Korea a few weeks ago, and we had lunch with them before they left...

Awhile back now, was Korean independence day. Because of this special occasion, Seoul city had decorated the City Hall building downtown with hundreds (possibly thousands) of coloured paper lanterns. It was certainly a majestic sight. As you can see, the building was absolutely covered. I was impressed too with all the people hanging out in front of City Hall. Would that happen in Canada? I'm not sure...kk

Hope that satisfies all your inquiries about what I'm doing in Korea. Good luck everybody as September is here and I know what that means - school!

Peace.

-Paul
